A courtyard garden behind a modern house in Holt, North Norfolk, with a subtle Mediterranean feel and a brief for low maintenance.

 

We designed two seating areas, one for morning sun and one for evening, with privacy from the neighbouring windows and a drought-tolerant planting scheme that mostly looks after itself.

 

Materials include Iroko for the pergola, Cumaru decking, natural sandstone, and Cor-ten steel around the water feature; an automated irrigation system keeps the garden going through the drier months.
